DOEIGSA was formed in 2012 from the merger of associations representing graduate students in four different programs in Concordia’s Department of Education: APLI, Ed Studies, Ed Tech, and the PhD program, and in September 2017, the General Assembly unanimously voted to include students in the Child Studies MA program as members.
The association’s purpose, as stated in its bylaws, is to “support initiatives that encourage student well-being in the Department of Education and in the university at large by working in the interest of the student body.” It also aims to “engage students in social issues, inside and outside university, which are pertinent to education.”
Today, DOEIGSA is one of the most active and dynamic student associations on campus. It is also a member association of the Graduate Students’ Association (GSA), the umbrella organization that collects fees from, provides services for, and represents all grad students at Concordia. DOEIGSA members are encouraged to get involved and have their voices heard at both the department level and the GSA.
